Subject: Los Angeles Star 1870 enquiry
Dear Sir/ Madam,
My name's Simon O'Donovan and i'm an artist in London. I'm interested in getting hold of a digitized copy of the 'Los Angeles Star' November 12th 1870 and December 1st 1870 (story regarding Charley Clusker's search for a mythical ship in the desert). I spoke to an archivist at the University of Southern California who thinks you have a copy on microfilm. If this is the case is there anyway you would be able to allow me to receive a copy?
Thanking you in advance for your help,
Simon O'Donovan

Simon,
The California History Room should have those dates on microfilm. I will check, and if so, I will you send you scans of the articles. Do you know what pages the articles are on?

Dear Mr. O'Donovan --
I am not aware of any existing digital copies of the Star for the
date you require.
The California State Library and the Cal State Northridge Library
appear to have this issue on microfilm. Perhaps you can arrange with
them to digitize it for you.

Far off, across the open desert, some
ten miles to the southeast was a body
of water.
Water that shouldn't be there. Water
that hadn't been there a year before.

Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of
the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out,
and streams in the desert.

some more fun...
The life that I have is all that I have
And the life that I have is yours
The love that I have of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.
A sleep I shall have, a rest i shall I have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my death of my years in the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.

O sweet illusions of song
That tempt me everywhere,
In the lonely fields, and the throng
of the crowded thoroughfare!
I approach and ye vanish away,
I grasp you, and ye are good;
but ever by night and by day,
The melody soundeth on.
As the weary traveller sees
In desert or praise vast,
Blue lakes, overhung with trees
That a pleasant shadow cast;
Fair towns with turrets high,
And shining roofs of gold,
That vanish as he draws nigh,
Like mists together rolled -
So i wander and wander along,
And forever before me gleams
The shining city of song,
In the beautiful land of dreams.
But when i would enter the gate
Of that golden atmosphere,
It is gone, and i wonder and wait
For the vision to reappear.
